"Architecture is not about what "you" like."
During Parti, there was this professor who graduated from Princeton (who was famous for being quite sharp with his words). He noticed I had some errors with my program.
Prof:"Jamie, why are there so many toilets in your tower?"
Unaware who I was dealing with, I casually replied, "Oh, it is just a personal thing, we used to put toilet at every floor." (the project was only for two people, I have put five toilets)
Instead of digging into the awfully-off number of the program, he goes,
"Architecture is not about what YOU LIKE."
An awkward silence hit the room.
Nadeem (my instructor by the time) was sitting next to him as looked at me and awaited my answer.
Me: "Indeed, however by the end of the day, all of this (pointing towards the drawings) has to come 'through me'."
and I can see a grin on Nadeem's face.
