The Snow & the Train

From Milan to Munich

IMG_7790.JPG

After 5 days in Milan with Alex, I'm heading North towards Munich for one night stay and then jump on another train towards Memmingen to meet up with Bianca. Where eventually she and her boyfriend Michael is going to take me to her place at Bad wurzach.

It was in fact the only part of the trip where I'm truly traveling "alone", also the very first time I've ever taken a train for an over-night stay.

Unsurprisingly inexperienced, I had an overweight luggage with me. Which simply made everything less convenient to accomplish by myself: traveling through the snow carrying it on and off the train, finding my spot, and lift the luggage all the way up on top of my seat.

Within Alex's lesson in advance, which his Mac book got stolen, I payed great cautious of my belongings and the strangers what are potentially going to accompany me through the night. Funny thing though, as I grew up in a, what David commented as an "homogeneous" country, Taiwanese usually stare at westerners as they visit us. Now it's my turn to be stared at. In what I call a fortunate consequence, other travelers simply glimpsed through the window of my car then left in no interest of staying in a space with me.

Not before long everything's settled, a facility hurried in my cart and said,

"Miss, German or English?"

"English!" I instantly reply in surprise of his sudden appearance.

He looked at me and said,

"May I see you ticket please. Are you traveling to Munich or Vienna?"

"Munich." I reply, wondering have I gone on the wrong train as I showed him my ticket.

"Sadly Miss, due to the heavy snow, they closed the mountain route from Switzerland to Munich, which was originally the train's destination."

Shit! I thought to myself, I've already payed for my hotel at Munich.

"Now, you have two choices. Either you'd like to change your plan and travel with us to Switzerland instead, or you may travel with the other half of the train to Vienna and I'm sure there will be plenty of trains there that goes to Munich."

I chose to follow the other half to Vienna. So the attendant kindly gathered my language and lead the way. Be aware, I'm still a poor student with budget. So I got the cheapest ticket which usually puts you at the latter part of the train. Now, I have to get all the way to the first class. Cause that's the "half of the part" where they are heading to Vienna. We opened and closed countless cart doors and finally arrived first class where people can actually "sleep in bed".

"Sorry Miss, our bed is full. You may look around wherever is vacant within seats." The attendant drop my luggage and left.

Finally, everything was settled.

There's me and my bag, on a train in Europe in snow, an oriental young woman traveling alone.  It all reminded me of "Murder on the Oriental Express", what a night of wonders and mystery.

I turn on my phone to keep up with my movie "Aladdin", and before I realize, I've fallen asleep into the deep cold night.

Another great example of how architects apply their intention through work of space. They say what Irving Gill is trying to do here is to lessen as much work for cleaning in this space for woman. However, seeing the complicated furnishing in the house after words, I do still doubt whether the intention of his actually works.
